How Do You Make a Stencil from an Image in Photoshop?

In this tutorial, I teach you how to make a stencil from an image in Photoshop. Creating and printing a stencil of any image is a great way to create a fun project. Using the power of Photoshop, you can quickly and easily add that finishing touch to an image that makes it perfect for social media.

Photoshop is the first thing that anyone looking to edit images will need. You’ll learn how to adjust the Threshold of the image to adjust the level of detail, then use the Brush Tool to remove any unwanted details.

Do check out our guide on installing brushes in Photoshop in a separate article if you have yet to do so yet.

1: Go to File > Open to Open Your Image

In order to begin, we’re going to need to open up the image that we want to turn into a stencil in Photoshop. Go to your program, and then click File > Open. To do so will cause a window to open in which you can select the file that you want to bring into Photoshop.

Find and then double-click the picture. We selected this image by cottonbro from Pexels.

2: Open the Threshold Window

Once you have opened the image in Photoshop, it’s time to start turning it into a stencil. Let’s adjust the level of detail within the image. This can be done in the Threshold Window. To access this window, click Image > Adjustments > Threshold.

3: Adjust the Level of Detail Using the Threshold Level Slider

You should notice that a new window opens, containing a slider called Threshold Level. In this version, we can adjust the level of detail using the slider. Click on the slider and drag it to the right or left to increase or decrease the level of detail within the image, respectively.

If your line is strong, but pixelated and without any levels of detail, you will still look good. The perfect value depends on your business model and what you personally prefer to show to your clients. However, if you’re going to work with a price range of around 106, you’ll be doing well.

Once you are satisfied with the image and formatting changes you’ve made, click the OK button to apply the changes.

4: Use a White Brush to Delete Any Unwanted Details

You’ve now successfully converted the image into a stencil with the main shapes and details of the image in black, but you may have some unwanted areas of black that you would like to get rid of.

To refine the stencil effect, we can simply paint over any black speckles or unwanted sections with a white paintbrush. Click the icon below to make sure your mouse pointer is over the top edge of the picture frame you want to change.

Select the tool and then highlight the settings bar, which appears to the left of the tool selection box when you select it. This bar has a number of different options that let you adjust different brush properties, including the smoothness, the size, and the opacity.

You can hide any type of skin imperfections with this concealer. Just be careful when you apply it to blend and set it so it doesn’t look too heavy on your face. Click on the top colored box to select a white brush. A new white brush will be added to the brush palette.

You can use the software to adjust the settings and create a custom blend that’s specific to your skin type. Then you can use the software to paint over any unwanted areas of black. To avoid working destructively, first create a new layer to paint on.

You can do this by clicking the + symbol at the bottom of the Layers Window. The new layer makes it easy to paint and draw directly onto your image, which is convenient. When the new layer is activated, you can click and drag anywhere on the canvas to add white or black.

In order to add color and details to your artwork, you can also switch the color of the brush to black in order to add more detail or fill in black sections. Merge the edits you made to the images by right clicking on them in the Layers Window and then click on Merge Down.

5: Apply the Cutout Filter to Further Simplify the Stencil

Finish the last section first! At this point, you can feel satisfied with the changes that have been made! You should have the following sections as part of your finished post: A: This is an extra step that could potentially take longer to produce, but it could also add to the appeal of your image.

So how can we do this? Simply click on the top of the screen and select Filter Gallery. You’ll now see an image of a piece of art, which will allow you to insert any kind of text. So, click the Artistic tab, and select Cutout. Applying this quick filter will make the edges of the stencil look more crisp and defined. This will help you when you’re cutting it out, making it much easier to use.

6: Print the Final Image

To finish off the stencil effect, the last step is to print the stencil and use it to create awesome pieces of artwork! When you save a file, you usually save it to a specific location on your computer. You can open it later by choosing File > Open from the top menu.

Type in the name for your new file and select a location for it to be saved to. Choose from among the many formats that save your files as pdf, txt, jpg or rtf. In this dropdown menu, select JPEG, then click the Save button to complete the saving process.

You’ve just created a new stencil. Open the file explorer application on your device and locate your saved stencil image. Once you’ve created your document, print it using the same print settings you use normally.

You can use this stencil to make a whole range of printouts using the templates you download from www.kaleidocopying.com. You can cut out the black sections with a pair of scissors or a craft knife, and then paint the remaining areas of the design to create different variations of the image, for example.

There are more opportunities than you can ever imagine, and that’s about all there is to know about the stencil method!
